Tiny church
This little church is over one-hundred years old and lives in Loving County, TX, the least populated county in the US. With a whopping 80 residents, Loving is located in the West Texas desert and is roughly the size of Houston.
A phone call to the sheriff revealed that this church is non-denominational and still holds service on Saturdays for the [see entire entry...]

Inside the Oratory

Originally uploaded by catrionastuart

The town of Ave Maria, Florida is a new experiment in Catholicism — an American town centered around a church. The town is still being built, and is scheduled to open this summer. We took a trip to the area recently to explore the literal building of a [see entire entry...]

Putting the Spin on Sexual Ethics

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Spin a wheel, win a…
The Sexual Ethics Interactive destined for our website is in progress. Should the wheel be golden? Hot Pink? Every visual aspect will be hotly debated. Or, ho hum, simply agreed upon. Here’s what’s ahead: Nik, Kara and I are calling different churches for their official position on various sexual ethics issues. People will see the results on the website in the form of an interactive wheel where visitors can check their [see entire entry...]

test your ethics

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Yes, I admit it’s a bit crazy that we’re going to be creating widgets and asking people to rate their sexual ethics on the street. (Do we need a Tshirt along the lines of “The We Got Ethics Street Team”?” What’s more exciting than getting people interested in religion than by a widget they can share with others? (well plenty, you say, but this is innovative I tell you and it’s, eh, journalism!) In any [see entire entry...]

Lawsuit filed against Bible class in public school

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Not something we’re working on, but the role of faith in public schools was something we discussed in class. A lawsuit has been filed against a West Texas school district for a Bible course that was created last year. This is also the school that was written about in “Friday Night Lights” – the football fanatic story.
Interestingly, the course was created by a private group that pushes for Bible curriculum in public schools. Here’s the [see entire entry...]

Online confessions from Al

So there’s churches that have launched online confessions?
————————————–
Thanks to Al’s Morning Meeting reader Theresa Moore at WTSP-TV in Tampa for sending me this one. The Miami Herald ran a piece about churches that have launched online confessionals. Some of the sites like IveScrewedUp.com, NotProud.com, DailyConfession.com, GroupHug.us and MySecret.tv are extremely popular. The story says:
A woman kept her secret for nearly two decades.
Finally ready to confess, she turned not to a minister, but to [see entire entry...]

Check’em out! I think we can get plenty of ideas from some of these sites for how to make our stories interactive. BBC takes the charts for online news….

From Al’s Morning Meeting: It’s a Second Life World

Al’s Morning Multimedia: It’s a “Second Life” World
Just as Facebook, MySpace and a gazillion other sites sprang up and found life long before mainstream journalists knew about it, a Web site — which may be better described as a Web way of life — called Second Life has millions of devoted users.
University of Maryland professor Don Heider, an old friend of mine from our TV days together in Nashville, is co-authoring a book about [see entire entry...]
