Making Headway
May 24th, 2006If you’ve ever wondered if there is anything worse than nauseating self-promotion (you’ve done it: hello, I’m so-and-so, I’m working on this-and-that, it is WONDERFUL, and you should absolutely consent to anything and everything that I ask you) - there is: nauseating self-promotion in Russian.
For the past hour-and-a-half, I’ve been battling with both my brain and a transliteration program to type up a description of News21 to be passed along to Kyrgyz government officials by a friend of a friend who’s hooked up.
I spent the few hours before that trying to get a handle on the make-up of the Kyrgyz government. With up to four cabinet and administration members fired, resigning or getting shuffled around into different jobs on any one given day, they are a handful.
Good news: we’ve got an apartment in Bishkek! (Four of them lined up, actually, ready for our inspection when we arrive at 5 am on June 7.)
