Columbia Immigration: New Voters, Old Fears

Mira Jang

Mira Jang received an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. She was a fellow at the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism, for which she wrote her Master’s project on immigration judges and the asylum-seeking process. Her investigative project was published as the cover story in LA CityBeat. For News21 in New York City, Mira produced a multimedia story on Asian Americans and the 2008 presidential election.

Prior to Columbia, Mira was the Long Beach City Hall reporter at The Long Beach Press-Telegram, where she wrote many front-page stories on city politics, including the Cambodian community’s effort to gain formal city recognition for Cambodia Town. In addition, she was a staff writer at The Orange County Register, where she covered Anaheim, its City Hall, and the diverse immigrant communities.

Mira’s work has been featured in The New York Times, United Press International, CQ Weekly, KoreAm Journal, and many others. She has an M.A. in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles and a B.A. in politics from Occidental College.
